Gay and gay

Yes, gay can mean "homosexual", and it can mean "happy" if you're over sixty....

But it is also a light-hearted and comedy way of saying something's silly or poor.

As I noted on my now-dead blog, the Oxford student who asked a police officer "Did you know your horse is gay?" was funny -- not offensive. And now Jeremy Clarkson is funny, not offensive.

Will people stop taking life quite so seriously please?
