Today's announcement by YouTube may be the most important in the history of TV.
By giving people a share of the ad revenue from their broadcasts, Google has instantly created a television marketplace. Any tech-savvy media producers must now be looking at whether they can draw large numbers of viewers to YouTube. If they can then a programme made for YouTube could pay for itself or, better, be profitable.
If conventional broadcasters were concerned that they were losing revenue, this should be causing more than concern.
Mark my words, this is the beginning of internet TV.
